Find out more »The Baltic Virtual Internships is a unique opportunity to virtually learn digital skills. All lectures are recorded, allowing you to watch them any time or start the program later. On top of that, after finishing the theory everyone has a chance to be a part of a virtual internship, during which participants can use their new skills in a work environment. This experience will, later on, help them to apply for demanding positions, and ensure individual competitiveness in the domestic and international labour market. Internships will be taking place remotely (virtually).
Initiative “Virtual Internships in the Baltic’s” is implemented by Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA) in cooperation with the University of Latvia and with financial support from Microsoft Philanthropies program.
Our aim is to provide the necessary tools and possibilities to develop the digital skills of inhabitants of all three Baltic States. We will not only provide training courses but also offer the opportunity of internships to apply new skills in practice – either in different companies and organizations all around the Baltic States, or in upskilling after the courses, where those who have passed the exam will be able to raise their qualification, doing interesting and practical tasks according to methodology developed in cooperation with IT industry stakeholders.
Participants will be given the opportunity to learn business and data analysis, development of apps and virtual assistants, learn to use Python, as well as wide possibilities of Microsoft 365 account. At the end of courses, participants will have acquired skills to work with a large amount of data, make data visualizations, develop programs that can be used in a business environment, and etc.
At the end of the courses, participants will have the opportunity to apply those skills in practice in a real work environment, by using the learning-by-doing approach.
LIKTA has already received positive feedback about this project in the past, and is happy that people, who are interested in developing their digital skills, can keep using an opportunity not only to update their knowledge but also to upskills their knowledge in virtual internships.
Initiative started on the 17th of June, 2021, and will last till December 30th, 2022.

Virtual internship is an option offered to participants who have passed the course exam.
During a virtual internship, the intern applies the knowledge acquired during the theoretical course to a challenge set by the company/organization (internship provider/industry stakeholder).
Advantages
For the employer:
– Real added value for the company – the intern will help you to structure and prepare visually appealing reports, develop a necessary app, automate the flow of documents in the company, etc.
– The opportunity to select the most suitable intern for your company’s needs.
– Knowledgeable interns who knows that a virtual internship can be a stepping stone to a job in the technology sector.
– A fully developed internship module and guidelines with recommended internship tasks.
For the intern:
– Opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the courses and to consolidate skills through a “learning by doing” approach.
– Increased understanding of the needs of modern companies, their potential and development directions.
– Trying out a new industry and qualification and, who knows, maybe even getting a job offer in the technology sector.
Our vision
The internship, including individual work, will last no more than 32 hours (within 1 month). The employer provides a responsible person from the company who will contact the intern once a week via MS Teams, Zoom, or other platform., explain the internship and answer any unclear questions. For further guidance on the internship process, sample internship assignments and information on the skills acquired during the course, please see the documents attached below.
Internship opportunity is provided to everybody – LIKTA in cooperation with IT industry stakeholders has developed internship methodology with modern and up-to-date tasks and provides upskilling that is lead by a professional mentor.
Registration for internships
Both interns and companies/organizations can register on the platform www.applyforinternships.eu. Internship providers should provide information about the provisional tasks for intern, however interns should mention their ambitions in internship. The platform ensures automatic matching between interns and employers and, in case of common interest, mutual communication.
