Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA) in cooperation with University of Latvia, partners in Lithuania and Estonia, and with financial support from Microsoft Philanthropies program, is implementing Baltic Digital Skills Development Program.

The project offers free training courses in English, Latvian and Lithuanian on various ICT topics. People in the Baltic States can learn how to use the business and data analysis in training series Business and Data Analysis, the basics of Python programming, and two courses on Artificial Intelligence – Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence with Python.

Now, after the end of the project, all courses are available for self-learning, testing and receiving certificate till June 30th, 2024.

The Baltic Virtual Internships is a unique opportunity to virtually learn digital skills. All lectures are recorded, allowing you to watch them any time or start the program later. On top of that, after finishing the theory everyone has a chance to be a part of a virtual internship, during which participants can use their new skills in a work environment. This experience will, later on, help them to apply for demanding positions, and ensure individual competitiveness in the domestic and international labour market. Internships will be taking place remotely (virtually).

 

Initiative “Virtual Internships in the Baltic’s” is implemented by Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA) in cooperation with the University of Latvia and with financial support from Microsoft Philanthropies program.

 

Participants are given the opportunity to learn business and data analysis, introduce themselves to possibilities of artificial intelligence, learn to use Python, and learn to analyze data with Python and artificial intelligence. At the end of courses, participants will have acquired skills to work with a large amount of data, make data visualizations, develop programs that can be used in a business environment, and etc.

  

LIKTA has already received positive feedback about this project in the past, and is happy that people, who are interested in developing their digital skills, can keep using an opportunity not only to update their knowledge but also to upskills their knowledge in virtual internships.

 

Initiative started on the 17th of June, 2021, and lasted till December 30th, 2023.

All courses are recorded and are available for self-learning, testing and receiving certificate till 30th June, 2024.

Meet Karlis Kivlenieks, who is passionate about empowering individuals to harness the power of artificial intelligence without extensive coding knowledge. As a leading expert at the University of Latvia Innovation Center and co-founder of the miniAccelerator No-Code program, Karlis is dedicated to developing course materials on no-code and AI technologies.

Microsoft 365 administration

Normunds Upenieks is a lecturer at the BDA (Baltic Computer Academy), the largest IT training center in the Baltics. As a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), Normunds has been running courses on Microsoft IT solutions (Windows Server and Client, System Center, Azure, Microsoft 365) for 20 years. He has practical experience in planning, implementing and administering on-premises and cloud infrastructure.

Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science

Navigating the realm of science and technology, Aurimas Aleksandras Nausėdas has consistently sought to bridge traditional fields with innovative frontiers. His formative years at Edinburgh University ignited his passion for Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, leading him to explore the intricate domain of Bioinformatics at Vilnius University. There, the wonders of biology and chemistry unveiled themselves, merging seamlessly with algorithmic complexities to form a coherent narrative of future possibilities.

Aurimas has ventured further into the intersections of Artificial Intelligence with industry. He is also an avid public speaker and a lecturer in Lithuania on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science to go with his passions of computing, running and playing basketball daily.

Virtual internship is an option offered to participants who have passed the course exam.

During a virtual internship, the intern applies the knowledge acquired during the theoretical course to a challenge set by the company/organization (internship provider/industry stakeholder).

Our vision

The internship, including individual work, will last no more than 32 hours (within 1 month). The employer provides a responsible person from the company who will contact the intern once a week via MS Teams, Zoom, or other platform., explain the internship and answer any unclear questions. Internship opportunity is provided to everybody – LIKTA in cooperation with IT industry stakeholders has developed internship methodology with modern and up-to-date tasks and provides upskilling that is lead by a professional mentor.

Registration for internships

Both interns and companies/organizations can register on the platform www.applyforinternships.eu. Internship providers should provide information about the provisional tasks for intern, however interns should mention their ambitions in internship. The platform ensures automatic matching between interns and employers and, in case of common interest, mutual communication.

One of the most rewarding experiences in the course and the internship was the realisation that even without any prior background in data analysis or Microsoft Power BI it is possible to follow webinars and subsequently take part in the internship. I also enjoyed greatly a teamwork and the outcomes we achieved in the internship.

I would very much recommend the LIKTA Business and Data Analysis course followed by a virtual internship as both of them are excellent sources of well-structured and presented information on Microsoft Power BI and its practical application. It also helps a lot that the lecturers of the courses – Adas Keserauskas and Deivids Tenis (Deivids was also a mentor at the internship) were extremely professional, knowledgeable, and patient in delivering the subject and leading their students towards a better understanding of Power BI.

In the courses, I learned to process information and adapt it for analysis, using power query. I also learned to create a presentation with data analysis from the obtained information, which can be used by the company management in decision-making.

A virtual internship in data analytics with Microsoft Power BI helped me to apply the newly acquired knowledge in practice and take the first steps in a possible real-life data analysis situation.
